Happy Thanksgiving to you all!

Wishing you and yours a wonderful Thanksgiving Holiday!

I hope you enjoy my quilty story.

Before we moved 3.5 years ago, I cut up all my scraps. Some pieces were as small as 1.5 inch squares. I have been working on sewing all those scraps up. This is not my first scrappy quilt from those, but it’s the most recent. I’ll try to show the others in future posts.  Anyway, I thought I had used up all the 1.5 inch squares in other quilts.  Searching for something else, I open a drawer and find this pile.  Using them up must have been a dream!

I decided to combine them with any 1.5 X 2.5 pieces I had.  My first thought was a postage stamp quilt.  I tried several arrangements, some making color paths and some just all mixed up.  It just wasn’t doing it for me, plus it wasn’t very big.20171026_111948

What happens if I add gray on point??  Okay, loving that.  However, that’s all my gray (who knows where I bought it!) and I can’t find a match in local stores… Back to the fabric stash.20180821_075325

Consulted some folks online and found some darker gray. I  didn’t have enough to go around again so, I used a tonal print for the corners.  I considered a pointy binding around the dark gray squares but gosh, do I really want to fuss that much?  Nope!  On the advice of my sister (Thanks Gail!), I added the colored triangles to finish it off. 20181029_115540

Digital design “Amaze Me” by Barbara Becker, maybe because the resulting quilt has kind of amazed me!  Dark Gray Omni thread and Hobbs unbleached 80/20 batting finish it off.

Look at this great backing fabric I found locally… a really, really good sale! Perfect for this quilt.  Binding fabric was from my fabric stash. 20181121_133104

It’s a happy quilt and I’m so pleased to have my small bits used up… well most of them. You all know how that goes.

It’s such a bright, sunny day, I decided a picture outside would be nice.20181121_133344

I just thought of a name for this quilt: Amazing Grays!

I adore it. You’ve created the perfect balance between random and orderly in a scrap quilt. The addition of color at the edge keeps your eyes moving throughout the quilt and back to the edge again. Just my humble opinion, but I give it a 10.
