Baby Quilt Meets Woobie

Yup, I am working. Up to my old tricks of quilting and not blogging.

Here’s one you will enjoy with a little story.  Sally had a special request for a baby quilt. Once the top was finished, she asked me if I could use a woobie for the batting and backing of the baby quilt.  A what?   Turns out a woobie is a military issue blanket/poncho liner with an outer layer of rip-stop nylon and batting that is polyester.  Well, I’m game to try.  First, I consulted the folks on Facebook quilting groups.  I really shouldn’t have been surprised to find that putting a quilt top on a woobie is quite common.  And everyone loves their woobies.

Here’s some pictures.

Here’s the whole quilt on the woobie. This isn’t the finished product.   Sally did an amazing job of picking out fabric that would coordinate with the woobie yet be suitable for a baby. After I quilted it she trimmed it to fit the quilt and took the dark outer nylon edging off to use as binding. Turns out it was the perfect width for binding and it matched the quilt so perfectly.  The quilt was soft, cuddly and turned out beautifully!
